One More Easy Halloween Gift

Aren't these adorable? They perfectly hold a snack size Kit Kat or Hershey bar. This picture is from Angie Juda at http://chicnscratch.typepad.com .

This is the last thing I've been putting together for Halloween. I saw them at Angie's great blog. You can view her tutorial here. Of course, her's are much fancier and mine were made last-minute to give to 12-yr-olds who will mostly care about what's inside. But you can see how they can be dressed up or down depending on your timeframe.
The cardstock is 10" x 2.5" and scored at 2-3/16", 2-11/16", 6-1/8", 6-5/8". The pattern paper is 9" x 2-1/4". You adhere the pattern paper to the cs starting on the short end. And the use the word window punch on the part that is left sticking out.

Use four small pieces of sticky strip as shown in the photo below. The two pieces by the word window hold it together and the other two are to secure the ribbon.
For the closure, I used the 1-3/8" circle punch and stuck it on the top flap with sticky strip. The I used a tiny piece of sticky strip to close it. (Be sure to put the candy in first!) Angie uses velcro so it can be open/shut repeatedly.
And here is what my neighbor/friend/upline did with hers! She started with the same basic idea but switched things up a little. You can see more of hers on her blog http://heathersheavinlystampations.blogspot.com .
Happy Halloween!
Thanks for stopping by and have a good weekend. It's almost time for my "monsters" to head out.

Last-Minute Halloween Gift

These adorable Frankenstein boxes are something I CASEd tonight. Angie Kennedy Juda has a great tutorial on her blog. Of course, the only supply I actually had that was the same was the wire so mine look more like run-of-the-mill monsters! I asked dh if he would bring some of the black wire in from the shed. His reply was "which one"? So I showed him the part of Angie's tutorial where she says "I don't know what it's called but show it to your husband..." He laughed and, yes, he knew what it was
.
The basic box requires only a 5"x11" piece of cardstock! You can get the specific directions in Angie's tutorial. These guys are headed to the teachers tomorrow. The grade school will do a costume parade in the morning since the kids are off Thursday/Friday for conferences.
.
That's it for me--the laundry is ready to switch so I can now call it a night.
Thanks for stopping!

1-Hour Simply Scrappin' Album

I have to share my first Simply Scrappin' album. Now I will say it took me two hours since I had to lay out the pages from scratch. But now I can put it together in 1 hour. Super for a gift. This one is for my cousin who got married recently and the colors are just perfect. I haven't fixed up the cover yet but it will be a "First Year of Marriage" album. Best part is you can get 2 albums out of 1 kit!
This page is pretty much a CASE of the sample that comes with the scrappin' kit. The pages are 8x8. These pictures are when I had it in an 8.5x8.5 book but I went to Hobby Lobby and got a nice 8x8 album for $12.99 that is post bound--made it look much better.

Both of these are red pages! Sorry the one looks so orange.

This gives you the basic idea. I will get better pictures and maybe even figure out how to do a sketch of it. But I know some of you were waiting to see the layout so I am posting it "as is".

Time's Running Out--Don't Miss It!

Yes, the Big Shot Party is almost over. Don't miss out on this never-to-be-offered again savings. If you have even remotely thought about getting the Big Shot, this is the time. Not sure what the Big Shot is? Just click on the pictures at the Party Page and you will get the catalog description. Remember, my sale ends at midnight CST. I would hate for you to miss it!
.
Coming in November I will start featuring projects using the Big Shot so you will have constant inspiration (although you will probably be too excited to need them!).
.
On the homefront, we are still waiting to hear the MRI results on ds. If you feel inclined, say a little prayer that the shoulder muscles are stretched not torn (or torn off). In the meantime the waiting has ended in our pastoral search. Hooray! Our committee interviewed a wonderful young pastor and his family. Of course, there are still steps/process to follow but the best part is my committee's responsiblities are over! That was a long haul since I accepted that position in January.
.
Thanks for stopping by today! I wish you a wonderful week and promise to have some "show and tell" again on Tuesday.

Tasha's Design World: Ghost-Bustin' Gift Idea

Ghost-Bustin' Gift Idea

My DS has a birthday party tonight for a friend who's turning 13. That's a hard age plus he is an only child so, of course, has anything he could ever want. Luckily, we faced the same challenge last month so I was a little less daunted this time. And guess what TARGET had the answer. Where else? Keep in mind we do not have an Abercrombie store here and I was not about to drag 3 children through the mall on a Saturday aimlessly looking for a gift my DS might approve.
.
So we started back at the smart-aleck t-shirt section in menswear. Most are not appropriate for this age group but we found a vintage style one with the Ghost Busters symbol on it. Great thing his birthday is so close to Halloween so we were able to build a "ghost-bustin kit". It was hard to remember that this was a birthday gift and not Halloween so I had to watch it with the stamps.
This is the shirt that started it all. I just rolled up a leftover piece of only orange cs and put on the label "official ghost-bustin' uniform".
.
With a little help from my computer word processing and my neighbor/friend/upline's Halloween stamps the kit was together in a short amount of time. This is the 6-pack of Ghost Bombs. Tag states "eliminate ghosts remotely", "just place, wait, and detonate". My favorite is the Ghost Bait. These are ghost Dots. I made a box and lid out of 1 piece of cs and it fits 6 boxes perfectly!

This snack is ghost shaped marshmallows that I saw in the $1 bins upon entering the store. The last thing in the kit is the Ghost Poop. It states "collected 10-25-08" "to be used for identification" and "submit to lab for testing".
Oh, the can that holds it all is one that used to hold pretzels so I can feel good about recycling!
.
Hope this inspires you like others' have inspired me. Thanks for stopping!

Got It Right This Time!

Okay, I sat down and did the right color challenge for this week.

CC189 Pink Chocolate Kisses

chocolate chip, pretty in pink (pink pirouette), old olive (kiwi kiss).

So here is my card in 3 views.

For the base of the card I used a folder from the pockets and pieces set in chocolate chip. The ink I used was VersaMark and chocolate chip. Additional paper is old olive designer series and pretty in pink. The sets are Eastern Blooms, Best Wishes and More, and All Holidays. To accessorize I used irridescent ice embossing powder, scallop edge punch, hodgepodge hardware, and paper piercing. All products are from Stampin Up!

Pretty simple card.
.
This morning we are off to the sports medicine doc. to check ds's shoulder. I need to pick up remnants from last weekend's carnival at the church and cook supper for a friend who had surgery. I am doing the dinner with my neighbor/friend/upline which is lucky because she will be able to deliver. Tonight I will be interviewing a pastor for our church. If you read this before 6:30 pm CST say a little prayer that this is THE ONE. We are looking for a family life minister (assistant pastor) and it has been a long process. I didn't quite know what I was getting into when I agreed to be on the committee! ;)
.
Well, it's time to run. I need to wake up the dh so he can go with us to the dr. He finished his last night shift for this set and went to bed 2 hours ago--but he wants to come along!

Only A Week Behind!

Since I was wanting to make a card for a friend who is having surgery, I hopped on SCS to find today's color challenge. Well, I made a card (that I think looks pretty good) and was getting ready to post it when my phone rang. While talking with my neighbor/friend/upline she let me know that I had clicked on last week's colors!! Not that it matters, it's just that I was feeling kinda proud of getting it done right away. ;)
Here's my card for the cc188:
Colors: pink pirouette, basic black, and whisper white. The flower stamps are from Eastern Blooms and the words from Fun and Fast Notes. Accessories I used are felt flowers (I died the teal one black), pink ice brad, gingham ribbon, scallop edge punch, irridescent ice embossing powder, piercing tool with mat pack. As usual all images/supplies are from Stampin' Up!
.
As for the non-stamping part of my life. Tonight is the last popcorn presentation I have to make. Woohoo! The sale here starts Nov. 8. But if you live outside Hutchinson and you want some delicious scout popcorn, we can take your order anytime! (sorry for the plug) Thursday is the big day for my ds. We have the checkup on his shoulder, yes we are still waiting to learn if he is injured or just hurt.
.
I better go face the dinner hour. Thanks for stopping by.

Saturday Sketchin'

I got a few thank yous made this afternoon while helping the kids with their homework assignments. I used Lauren's Saturday sketch for my quick start. Here's the sketch:

And here are my cards. Apparantly I didn't remember that it was a landscape sketch so mine are portrait but all in all they turned out nice and it didn't take me long to get 8 made.
The colors for these cards are real red, brilliant blue, yoyo yellow, and whisper white and basic black. I did stamp the star in VersaMark then black and embossed with clear. The stars are raised a bit with Stampin' dimensionals. Sets used are Eclectic Corners and Thank You blocks (both retired) along with Classic Backgrounds, Absolutely Fabulous and Fun & Fast Notes.
This one doesn't have the VersaMark star background and I think I like it better. These will be going out to the people that have helped our youth committee at church.
I also made this card just for fun because I wanted to use Heartfelt Thanks in bright cheerful colors. Colors are cameo coral, rose red, glorious green, green galore, whisper white, VersaMark and apricot appeal ribbon. The stamps are from Heartfelt Thanks and Absolutely Fabulous. It looks a lot brighter in person.
.
That's it for me. Thanks for stopping by!

Go, Go, Go and Wait, Wait, Wait

The story of our life right now is GO! Last week I helped in some way every day at the grade school. Seems as though I should get a paycheck now! It was also time for my "Popcorn Kernel" duties with the scouts. And the church carnival took place last night. So a lot have things have cleared off my schedule--whew!
.
On Thursday was the last football game. Both the A and B teams won which meant the A team finished the season undefeated--woohoo! The parents had a end-of-season chili meal after the game which was fun even when the lights got shut off! Bad news is ds (dear son) got hurt the second play of the game. Of course, he continued to play but we could tell he didn't look right. I took him in Friday to have the sore shoulder looked at and spent a couple hours on a roller coaster of emotion after being told the collar bone was fractured, maybe torn ligaments, etc. (of course I am thinking "oh crap, he's too young for surgery"). But the orthepedic/sports dr. said no fracture and we have to wait to see damage of tendons/ligaments. Luckily (?) the kids were out of school Friday so ds didn't have to miss anything. And lucky for me, my neighbor/friend/upline was home and took the younger two after the first dr. visit. What would we moms do without our support system of friends?
.
So we will continues to wait and pray that all turns out well. We go back next week to find out the course of action.
.
As you can guess I have LOTS of thank yous I need to get out, especially to all those that helped make the carnival successful. So check back tomorrow, I promise to have some posted.

Variation on a Theme

Today started out with DH leaving to go duck hunting at 5:30am and waking up DD who then asked if I could rub her tummy and could she lay with me. Her tummy has been hurting off and on for 3 days so I didn't panic. But at 6 she was throwing up so by 9 I was cleaning our bedroom carpet after getting the boys off to school and taking care of the dogs, chickens, and fish. Oh yeah, and it is cold (41) and raining.

.

In the midst of all that I did a little stamping! I really like one of the cards from yesterday and so I made it 3 more times, each slightly different.
The bright green one upper left was the original. The set is Eastern Blooms and words from Functional Phrases. The flowers all sit on large glue dots so they are raised up.
This one is real red, black, craft, and whisper white. I used the scallop punch and piercing tool. VersaMark for background on red.
This one is old olive, river stone (?), and cameo coral. Tip: hemp twine is too big to stitch with! I had stitching in the upper right but it tore.
The colors here are soft sky, bayou blue, sage shadow, and pumpkin pie plus VersaMark on background. I used paper piercing on the layer.
.
So I hope this gives you a little inspiration to get out your stamps!

Some Play Time

I actually managed a little play time today. Since I still have all my Stampin Up! demo. kit supplies upstairs, I just sat down and tried them out. These cards are all right off the sample pages they include in the kit which is why I could create them so quickly. But what fun!
Colors regal rose, gable green, glorious green, and whisper white. Stamps are Eastern Blooms and Fundamental Phrases.
Whoops!! This one is my own creation, it didn't come on the starter sample pages. Colors are pink pirouette, baja blue, whisper white, and rainbow sherbet designers series paper. The set is Fun & Fast Notes and there is a candle stamped in VersaMark from the Party Hearty set. I used the scallop edge punch and applied stampin' pastels with a blender pen.
This card colors are real red, tempting turquoise, whisper white and apricot appeal ribbon (1/4" grosgrain). I used the poppin pastels technique so I stamped flowers from the Eastern Blooms in VersaMark then applied the stampin' pastels to the VersaMark with the little swabs.
This gift card colors are real red, glorious green, brilliant blue and whisper white. The stamps are from Big Bold Birthday and Fundamental Phrases.
.
These are all so simple to make, yet good-looking cards. And I think they could be fabulous with a little glitter here and there!! The kids are home so I have to wrap this up.

Guest Sketcher This Saturday

No, it's not me that's the guest sketcher. But Lauren Meader who usually does the Saturday sketch has a big announcement this week so MacKenzie was kind enough to keep the tradition alive. Thanks MacKenzie! I hope to make a card this weekend, here's the sketch:

The Christmas Card Workshop is All Set

Just a quick post to let you know I finally spent time getting the website set up for our public holiday card workshop. So if you are within driving distance of Hutchinson, you are cordially invited to join us. You can view the workshop details at www. make-holiday-cards.com . I am doing this workshop with my upline/neighbor/friend so it should be fun. Some of the cards were shown in previous posts.

Like Winning The Lottery!

I got my demo. starter kit yesterday. Wowee...that's a lot of stuff! Yes, I do realize I paid for it but it's still a lot of stuff and just seems like Christmas or the lottery or something. In fact, I took a picture to show--too bad I can't capture the feeling that all this elicits. Now I just have to find a little time to use it.

In case you were wondering we won the football game yesterday 14-8. It was a nail-biter clear down to the last 11 seconds! We played our biggest rival and they are a lot larger school system so it was fun to win. I also got to go to my first middle school PTO meeting yesterday. They don't have any fundraisers except concessions--hooray! It is much less involved than at the grade school level.

.

This morning has been crazy already. I had to start a roaster full of ham and beans for my DH to take to work tonight and bake a cake first thing. Today is a special breakfast at the grade school where some of the high school football players come and eat with the little kids. They sign autographs, etc.--really a neat idea. Except our bus gets there too late so I have to actually take the kids on the days this happens. That was fine because I had to drop off some things at the school early anyway. But as I'm leaving my oldest DS asks if he me for a bag of chips or some kind of junk food. We don't have ANYTHING and they are supposed to bring it for a class party. So after dropping the other 2 I have to run to Kwik Shop. Do you have any idea how much chips cost at a convenience store?! Anyway I race back and made it before his bus came.

.

That's all I have time for today, I am off to said grade school to help with Discovery Day.

Thanks for stopping by! Till next time, Tasha

Happy Football Day!

Thursdays are football day at our house. We used to prepare the night before, but now that Wednesday activities have resumed at church, Thursday mornings can be quite a rush. This morning we couldn't find the white jersey--thank goodness my DS is old enough to remember what color to wear since I can't! For those not in sports they wear white when they are away and team color when they are at home except today they are playing in town but at a different school so it still counts as away.
.
I fielded the first call yesterday about my school fundraiser workshop. Yea! At least I know someone read the flyer! And now that those are out, I have a little more time to focus on other things so I made a card for last Saturday's sketch from Lauren M. If you want to play along the keyword is mytimess08 if you post it anywhere.

Colors for this card are certainly celery, tempting turqoise, blush blossom, and cameo coral. I used the stamp set Live Like You Mean It (borrowed from the neighbor) because I thought it was perfect for this challenge.
.
Oh, you have to check Heather's (the neighbor) blog today! She posted some cool punch projects. We just love that tab punch. Plus she has some blog candy if you're the right number.
.
And I promised to show a few of the birthday cards from my Everyday Card Kit that is being offered at the Christmas card workshops. I used the rainbow sherbet dsp so the palette is tempting turquoise, green galore, apricot appeal, and certainly celery.
These first two use the Party Hearty set which I think is going to be one of my favorites!

And this last card uses Bugs and Kisses and Garden Whimsy.
All of the cards are quite simple to make since the participants will be making 20 cards total and some may have no previous experience.
.
Well I hope you have a great day! Thanks for stopping.
