World Card Making Day

It's a day to celebrate something I love! And guess how I am celebrating...

a) with a special workshop

b) an open house

c) a make-and-take at a local retirement home

d) none of the above

Answer: d) none of the above

Today is also Buhler Frolic which is the local celebration of a small town nearby. And it just so happens our schools are in their district so we are going to the parade and celebration today. Then we are going to a "famous" working ranch for dinner and a show.

That's how we like to do it at my house--cram everything into one day. lol ! Actually, our Christmas gift to my parents last year was that we would take them to this dinner but it has taken us until now to coordinate our schedules so we could go.

But you can still celebrate World Card Making Day by heading over to Unscripted Sketches for a blog hop and some blog candy!

I do have a fun project to share with you tomorrow! It's been in my head for about a month and I finally made it yesterday--I was so excited!!

One More Easy Halloween Gift

Aren't these adorable? They perfectly hold a snack size Kit Kat or Hershey bar. This picture is from Angie Juda at http://chicnscratch.typepad.com .

This is the last thing I've been putting together for Halloween. I saw them at Angie's great blog. You can view her tutorial here. Of course, her's are much fancier and mine were made last-minute to give to 12-yr-olds who will mostly care about what's inside. But you can see how they can be dressed up or down depending on your timeframe.

The cardstock is 10" x 2.5" and scored at 2-3/16", 2-11/16", 6-1/8", 6-5/8". The pattern paper is 9" x 2-1/4". You adhere the pattern paper to the cs starting on the short end. And the use the word window punch on the part that is left sticking out.

Use four small pieces of sticky strip as shown in the photo below. The two pieces by the word window hold it together and the other two are to secure the ribbon.

For the closure, I used the 1-3/8" circle punch and stuck it on the top flap with sticky strip. The I used a tiny piece of sticky strip to close it. (Be sure to put the candy in first!) Angie uses velcro so it can be open/shut repeatedly.

Last-Minute Halloween Gift

These adorable Frankenstein boxes are something I CASEd tonight. Angie Kennedy Juda has a great tutorial on her blog. Of course, the only supply I actually had that was the same was the wire so mine look more like run-of-the-mill monsters! I asked dh if he would bring some of the black wire in from the shed. His reply was "which one"? So I showed him the part of Angie's tutorial where she says "I don't know what it's called but show it to your husband..." He laughed and, yes, he knew what it was

.

The basic box requires only a 5"x11" piece of cardstock! You can get the specific directions in Angie's tutorial. These guys are headed to the teachers tomorrow. The grade school will do a costume parade in the morning since the kids are off Thursday/Friday for conferences.

Ghost-Bustin' Gift Idea

My DS has a birthday party tonight for a friend who's turning 13. That's a hard age plus he is an only child so, of course, has anything he could ever want. Luckily, we faced the same challenge last month so I was a little less daunted this time. And guess what TARGET had the answer. Where else? Keep in mind we do not have an Abercrombie store here and I was not about to drag 3 children through the mall on a Saturday aimlessly looking for a gift my DS might approve.

So we started back at the smart-aleck t-shirt section in menswear. Most are not appropriate for this age group but we found a vintage style one with the Ghost Busters symbol on it. Great thing his birthday is so close to Halloween so we were able to build a "ghost-bustin kit". It was hard to remember that this was a birthday gift and not Halloween so I had to watch it with the stamps.
This is the shirt that started it all. I just rolled up a leftover piece of only orange cs and put on the label "official ghost-bustin' uniform".

With a little help from my computer word processing and my neighbor/friend/upline's Halloween stamps the kit was together in a short amount of time.This is the 6-pack of Ghost Bombs. Tag states "eliminate ghosts remotely", "just place, wait, and detonate". My favorite is the Ghost Bait. These are ghost Dots. I made a box and lid out of 1 piece of cs and it fits 6 boxes perfectly!

This snack is ghost shaped marshmallows that I saw in the $1 bins upon entering the store. The last thing in the kit is the Ghost Poop. It states "collected 10-25-08" "to be used for identification" and "submit to lab for testing".

Oh, the can that holds it all is one that used to hold pretzels so I can feel good about recycling!
